Description: This course introduces a Lighting Designer in depth to various domains of Lighting Design. A basic knowledge in Lighting Design and DIALux is a pre-requisite for this course. This course introduces in depth the standard practises in Roadway Lighting, Parking System Lighting and Sports Lighting.

Course Overview:

Module 1: Introduction to Lighting Design Practises (5 hrs)

Module 2: Design Standards and Fundamentals (5 hrs)

Module 3: A Complete Road Lighting Project (10 hrs)

Module 4: A Complete Project in Parking and Sports Lighting (10 hrs)

Module 5: Individual Projects in Road Lighting and Parking Systems (15 hrs)

Module 6: Individual Projects in Sports Lighting (10 hrs)

Module 7: Documentation of Projects (5 hrs)

Software Used: DIALux evo 8 & DIALux 4

System Requirements:

DIALux evo 8: CPU with SSE2-support, 4 GB RAM (min. 2GB), OpenGL 3.0 graphics card (1 GB RAM), Windows 7/8.1/10 (32/64 bit), Resolution min. 1024 x 768 px.

DIALux 4: Processor P IV or later, 1.4 GHz or faster, 1 GB RAM, Graphics card with OpenGL or DirectX Support, Resolution 1280 x 1024 px, Windows XP/Vista/7/8.1/10.

Course Summary:

Module 1: Introduction to Lighting Design Practises (5 hrs)

In this module, we cover the basics of Road lighting. This includes the basic terms used in road lighting, the standard street designing methods, a curved road and round about junction methods. Light effects with different distributions will also be discussed. A short information of the standards following in the industry will also be discussed.

Module 2: Design Standards and Fundamentals (5 hrs)

Here we discuss the standards to be followed in road lighting, parking lanes and pedestrial roads. A detailed description about the industry standards will also be discussed.

Module 3: A Complete Road Lighting Project (10 hrs)

1. Creating a complete standard street

Here we execute a full standard street project using the standard luminaire and matching the lux levels based on the standard criteria. This will be executed both in DIALux evo 8 and DIALux 4.

2. Creating a complete project by adding exterior scenes

A complete project with standard street, exterior street such as curved roads, junctions, round-about and intersections will be discussed in detail with a familiarisation in both DIALux Evo 8 and DIALux 4.

Module 4: A Complete Project in Parking and Sports Lighting (10 hrs)

1. Create a Parking area

A complete project with the standards in parking, evaluating and testing with LED parking garage fixture to choose the best illumination with proper uniformity in order to achieve a good result and energy savings which reduces maintenance cost while maintaining similar lighting levels. This will be executed in DIALux Evo 8.

2. Create a Project in Sports Lighting

Different sports fields & courts such as a Soccer field, Volleyball court, Basketball court etc. need good artificial lighting to provide consistent, uniform and adequate lighting levels. This can be well executed in DIALux 4 and a detailed description about the sports lighting will be described in this section.

Module 5: Individual Projects in Road Lighting and Parking Systems (15 hrs)

Project1: Importing files from AutoCAD and doing a complete Road Lighting Project.

Project2: A complete Parking system design.

Module 6: Projects in Sports lighting (10 hrs)

Project1: A whole design with different types of sports stadium.

Module 7: Documentation of Projects (5 hrs)

In this final module, we will be dealing with Creation of Project Reports and Documentation of the Project.
